Mine are potted because I can't keep them as watered as they would prefer on a mount (I still water every 2-3 days in its pot). Florida obviously provides enough humidity that this isn't a problem, so it would be your personal preference.

I heard somewhere that when you put roots that are mounted and (aerial) into pots with media they are going to rot util they make new roots. That is why I asked the orignal question. I am afraid of putting in pots because they were not growing in pots. I like pots because I dont have to water every day,w which is the other diemna. Any thought anyone?

Since you have 2 why not pot one and mount one.
Which one works better will depend on the environment and your care habits.

Roots will adapt themselves to their surroundings and sometimes will die if there is a major change. I would only be concerned with the new roots not so much the older ones. Ideally you should pot or mount in spring when the new growth is starting so the new roots are coming in as the old are fading.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. That way the better man will survive. This p.m. I got two small terra cotta pots and one basket. So I will pot up and mount tonight.

I hope they both make it! Oncidiums are pretty easy to please: dose them with plenty of sun and water.
