MN 2016 Clematis Growth and Blooms

This has been an unusual year for me as some vines responded to the rainy spring with yellow leaves on new growth near the soil before greening up. Then I was gone for two weeks and returned to a parched garden but rains have returned and vines have recovered. Rabbits and deer feasted on the garden while I was gone so there were
dead vines that had been chopped off low that needed to be removed. Some early heavy bloomers had little bloom this year while others have been covered in bloom.

Wow !! So beautiful and lush you would never know you were parched and a snack for wild life ;). How old are the Clem's ? Mine have such a long way to go!

In the first pic , are your Clem's on an old tree or lamp post ? I love them all but that's my favorite!!

Most are 6+ years old and some started from seed. I find that it takes at least 3 years to have a good amount of bloom.The clematis in the front bed grow on a wire tuteur, one of three in that bed as you can see in this old photo. Click to enlarge.
