Looks like your guy is going dormant, so he must also know it's the middle of winter.

No worries, fig trees are sad to see in winter but they make up for it plenty in their season ;)

The best thing you can do to help it along is mulch it heavily, preferably with hay. This will encourage earthworms to aerate and enrich the soil around your tree, as well as protecting the young roots from any frost.

edit: if that tree is facing south then you picked an ideal spot to plant; fig trees have a great affinity for concrete. The thermal mass of the concrete protects the sap in the roots from freezing, as well as reflecting light and heat in all seasons. That will be one happy and large fruit tree in a year or two :)

but it's way too close to the wall.
