Have you had hail this season? My poor peonies didn't bloom because the buds were blasted by a very late frost (actually it was an April snow which is really weird here). Then we had a couple of hail storms so the peony & hosta foliage is ragged. Some years are better than others, this one was a wash for peonies in my garden.

I think we may have, I live at 7,000+ feet. It's pretty cold up here at night, maybe peonies cant grow here

We're around 6000 ft, have no problem with summer colder nights. The only issue we have that negatively impacts the peonies is late spring blizzards. Some varieties of peonies have better summer/fall foliage than others, some are more prone to mildew and other unsightly foliage issues. If you want foliage that is more resistant and continues to look good into the fall you should look at Itohs. Hail is an issue for all of them, though.
