Your second photo of the one in your yard is not a lily (lilium). It's a daylily (hemerocalis). There is a daylily forum if you want to post your pic over there. People often confuse the two so don't feel bad. :-)

I know sometimes the first flowers on my daylilies can look like that, and then the following flowers come out without the blemishes.

I'd say the top picture, your true lily, looks like virus. I think your daylily has insect damage, perhaps by thrips. I don't know why some daylilies are more susceptible than others to open with imperfect blooms.
