For the non texans lardeo is south texas very hot. It may live for a few years but a bad winter will probably kill it

That makes sense. I saw a large adenium at our zoo in San Antonio a couple years ago and that has to be what they do. It was a big substantial plant in the ground but it shouldn't survive a winter without protection.
