Very nice ! So there are different colours of flowers on it ? But don't forget to change the soil to better drained one because it's not ment for our climate! That was my biggest mistake why I lost a very big plant of Otto because they sel it straight from the nursery from where they get it or he is giving it with his cactus soil. But because of the big lost I learned a lot and also found this forum

Dennis, I completely missed your first post yesterday, sorry. This big boy came from Otto as well, and I realise the medium it's in is totally wrong. I've been using a water meter and haven't needed to water it yet once since we got it 5 weeks ago... however, I don't want to repot before it has finished blooming. I'm keeping a very close eye on it, checking the firmness of the caudex daily. If I can help it I won't repot until spring when it comes out of dormancy.

As for the flowers: it has singles and triples on it (or are those doubles?), so it's a partial graft. This morning it looked like some flowers on the third stem will open today, but it looked like they will be the same as the one in the picture above of the single flower. Will check and update here when I get home!

Otto gets them like this from where he imports them and that's is from a much warmer climate than ours. I just repotted 6 Adeniums 1,5 month ago and today the 2 who had rotten roots. The 6 are growing faster now then before but after I repot them they stopped growing leaves for 4 weeks because I think they where busy with there roots system to settle up in the new soil, but I have still 2 to go with the bad soil but waiting for them wen the soil is dried up so its easier to clean them

Update on the big one.

I was starting to get worried about this plant this week. After nearly two months and no watering the trusted old water meter told me it was still more than wet in the bottom of the container.

So today was the big day. I took it out of the container and rinsed it off thoroughly. Not a mean task, it took me the best part of 2 hours. The plant had been potted in a clay type of soil. No wonder it wouldn't dry in our climate. There were a couple of dead roots at the bottom, they fell off automatically as I rinsed it.

Now it's back in its container with proper 60/40 perlite/c&s mix. I'm glad I didn't wait till next spring, I feel bug boy would have been in serious trouble by then.

Now I can sleep again at night :-)

What a beauty too! So glad you caught it this season Conny. Would hate to see you lose this one in winter. She looks fantastic even unpotted. And heavy! Bet she weighs 15 pounds.

Oh Tracy, that's the one thing I forgot to do, weigh it. But I'd say your guestimate is about right.

Yes Rick, it's gone back in the same pot. I do have my eye on a nice alternative, but it's more expensive than the plant and made of wood, so not so sure yet if that will work

The original pot does the job for now though. It has plenty of draining holes, so things should be fine from now on.

Yes Dennis, I was too afraid to postpone it any longer, even though it is still blooming very beautifully.

There were thin dead roots at the bottom that had rotted before. They were now dry and just fell off. Didn't find any real rot. I feel I did it just in time though....

For my soil I used perlite, bark (not bigger than cornflake) ,soil and pumice all in equal amounts. I came to this by the help of this forum. It's a good drained soil so I have no worries that the soil is staying to wet for a long time. If you want to know the brand and where to buy I can help you with that.

Thanks Dennis. I've been using the perlite/cactus & succulent soil mix for a couple of months now, and all the plants (and seedlings) seem to be happy in it so far.

Gorgeous and huge! That caudex is amazing! How old is the plant? I like Rufus as well! He looks so handsome in that pose next to the DR. That's a great picture overall. You should post that picture to pinterest. :)

Conny, how is the big plant now, did it make a full recovery from the root issue?...hope so!

I have no idea how old the plant is to be honest... we bought it last June, but no idea as to where the guy who sold it to us sourced it from. I don't think it was grown in the Netherlands though (where it would take ages to get to this size), considering the medium it came it.

It has totally recovered, and (looks and feels) very healthy. Still wondering why it flowered first and started growing leaves after the main blooming had finished.

I'm not too happy with the way it looks at the moment (shape, branches and leaves), so I'll be back in spring asking for advice on how/where to prune :-)

I think Otto told me some of his plants where like 30 years old ! I think she flowered because of the journey she made to come to the Netherlands. I read most of the Adeniums flowers after the dormancy time wen they didn't get much water

I was told that adeniums have no leaves but bear a lot of flowers, which is the thing that attracted me to this plant first.I couldnt imagine a plany with flowers and no leaves but you see that is the truth...maybe it was summer starting in your region that prompted it to flower so profusely. In anycase it is lovely.

Conny....it is beautiful in full bloom and pretty caudex.
