I'm trying to figure out the ideal lighting situation for a leafy greens indoor growing setup that I'm working on. I'm growing on racks, with each shelf roughly 2'x6' in size. I'm trying to minimize the vertical space between shelves, which is where my problem stems. I think that using fluorescents as grow lights will produce too much heat and harm the plants if i'm trying to keep that inter-shelf height ~2'.

So I've started looking at the LED route...
Most of the commerical products seem to be a unit of concentrated LEDs, requiring vertical distance between the unit and the plants in order to properly spread the light.

I've seen pictures of commerical setups using many (up to 12?) LED strips in order to help mitigate this problem by producing less light locally. However, as many on this forum have pointed out, finding adequate LED strip lighting (actual PUR) is quiet difficult.

Does anyone have any pointers either about products or methods to help me in my design?
