You might be able to find some on sale at big box stores around this time of year. What part of the country are you in?

There are not really any true dwarf fig tree varieties, everyone wants one and people sell them but they still get to be 15 ft. if you plant them in the ground, instead of 20.

p.s. seedlings are either male (inedible) or female, and will most likely need pollination from a specialized wasp to produce any fruit at all. If fruit is in your plan then do not use a seedling.

I'm in Pittsburgh and the ones I've found are really lanky. Good point about the seedlings. I've started to give up on a fig bonsai and I'm leaning toward other ficus plants like retusa/religiosa. I think I might buy one for landscaping that has a fat, winding main trunk and prune it way back.
