Those are called Bishop Cap Red Habaneros.

Thanks for the reply, my only issue is there seems to be more than one flower per node which from the info you provided would indicate c. chinense. I've included another pic that shows that.

Also, I noticed the photo of the pod I included seems to have over exaggerated the bulge in the middle.

Here is a pic of an immature pod that does not seem to have a bulge in the middle.

Since the plant seems to be flowering and producing new pods well I decided to eat the pod that was pictured. I took a bite off the end and there was a slight kick to it. My next logical step, the brilliant person that I am, was to eat the whole pepper in one bite. Wow that was hot! Definitely hotter than the habaneros I've had before. Can't wait for a few ripe pods to make the salsa I've been thinking about since the season started. Good thing I have a massive hot banana pepper plant putting out fruit so I can make a milder version for the wife. Judging by heat, does that help identify what this mystery pepper is? I'll definitely be saving the plant and seeds for next year. This is my first year growing peppers so I'll have to read up on how to do both. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The 1st pic does look a bit like bishop, but that small one looks like hab. My guess would be that it's just some pod variation. It's been a while since I shopped for pepper plants at HD but last I checked they didn't carry anything as uncommon as a bishop.

Bit of advice though... I'd pick any fruit and maybe even some flowers to encourage more foliar growth and I would definitely transplant it into more soil.

Good luck.

Kevin

Kevin,

i picked all the fruit and a few flowers that were blooming when I went outside today. I also transplanted it into a larger pot per your recommendations. I'll try to keep you updated on how the plant does.

thanks,

Quinn

Quinn: for the 1st few days after transplant, keep it in dappled shade a bit, especially if it gets real hot. Don't want to shock it. Hope it gets going for you before the summer winds down and you can get a decent harvest.

Kevin

To me, the pods are not bishops crown or "Yuba Tuba" as I call them. They are not habs either. Both of those have relatively smooth skin. Those pods are bumpy which denotes something in the super hot family and likely Chinense. Not sure of the specific variety though.
