It's probably root bound and water stressed and needs a bigger container without the weeds.

Agree with rayrose. That's a big tree for such a small pot.

I bought a bt from home depot and it was terribly root bound. I put it in a bigger pot, put 4 air layers on it, gave it some superthrive and its doing great.

All of the above ,plus sitting on black top in Black container ,in hot weather!.

Of course it can't take it anymore!.

Can you plant it in the ground? What zone are you? Figs in black, plastic, SMALL pots develop will develop yellow leaves due to soil heat. Ground is much cooler than a pot exposed to sun. It you need to containerize it, use a larger pot and try to protect the pot from direct sun if you can.
