I also inherited a Christmas Cactus. This is a new plant for me and it is also in death's door so if you happen to know anything about that please feel free to add it. The only thing I have done so far is move it out of full sun.

I can speak to the Christmas Cactus. You did right to get it out of the sun. Though a cactus, it is a tropical and not a desert cactus. What type of potting mix is it in? Some folks on the C & S Forum grow it in pure pine bark while I, on the other hand, use an even mix of pine bark, turface and perlite with no more than 10% potting mix/homemade compost soil added in.

The thin stemmed orchid with the small growths (keikis, another word for babies ) is a warm growing hard cane Dendrobium and the other orchid is a Cattleya hybrid.

I cut the plants off the stalks, leaving what they were attached to and just sort of stuck them in little pots with orchid planing soil -which looks like is just bark and vermiculite. They were looking good but last night I think they were discovered by some slugs. I am soaking them and I'll put them back in their pots.

Oh, and I fertilized them with some very weak fertilizer. I need to get the little wooden baskets. They're pretty fugly as is, between the chewed up leaves and their temp pots. I'll post pictures when they are looking a little better.
