Need help designing large rectangular living room

I live in a 101 year old home in Minneapolis, MInnesota. I am struggling to figure out what to do with the large rectangular living room. We have money to purchase new decor but don't know where to start.

If you had this room, what would you do to make it a comfortable, kid-friendly and cool? Any advice is helpful, and thank you on advance.
