Banana Rose blooming for the first time

I was really delighted to see my 3 ft tall Banana Rose blooming for the first time. I got this plant around 2009 (about 7 years back). Then, I planted it in the ground, but it didn't do too good in the cold, so i potted it up instead. For many years, it was just surviving, but it did send out many pups. I split them up when the pot got too crowded.

This one little split up plant now decides to bloom for me. It isn't even merely as tall as some of the better looking and robust ones which are about 4-5 ft. This just makes me wonder about bananas--that they have a mind of their own when to do their thing ... lol.

I read that they produce edible fruit that has a lemony flavor. At this point, I'm not expecting too much of the fruit outcome, but at least I'm happy to see the pretty pink bloom.

What species is it and where did you get it? If I Google "banana rose," I get a bunch of crap.

It likes the word "Musa" rather than "Banana." Here's a link to it.

I bought it online some years back, but I don't remember who I bought from. If you google this time with "Musa Rose," you might find some plant vendors selling them. Hope that helps.

Here are a couple of pictures showing the fruit development. The fingers are so minuscule and funny looking. In all, I counted eight of them--the rest are all the male flowers.

So, as an "edible ornamental," does it produce seeds, and, if so, does the person who said "edible" expect people to spit he seeds out or swallow them?

That is a good question. I would only find out when and if my fruit develops .... As of now, I'm just glad that it sends a pretty bloom for me.
