Hello, we have 10 Soil bursts, how are the others doing?

It was eight for a while, then it became nine. But it appears the remaining seeds have suddenly burst to life yesterday and all are pushing up now. I honestly was expecting it was just these 9 to be what I'd have to deal with, but to have all 15, wow. :o

Dragonstone (sorry your name escapes me). This is something I see frequently since I sow seeds regularly is some latecomers popping up much later.

I thought I'd give an update on shipping time. Mine said shipped on the 19th and I received them today. I can't wait to sow them - it will have to wait since we are in a hurricane watch at the moment... lol

If your property is not low enough to be flooded, I'd go ahead and start them.

Almost as soon as it hits land, it's forecast to speed up and be gone really fast.

I see it's just now been updated to hurricane status. I've been watching this guy for over a week. I was really worried for a bit.

My little seedling dropped his cap today. I have one other still trying hard to catch up. They go to the "plant sitter" this weekend. So I'll say cheers, for now and catch up, start up again again when I get back. If I see any lovely wild plants, I'll take pics and post them. ;-)

Planted 18 Aug 2016, Emerged 26 Aug, lost his cap 2 Sept 2016. The photo isn't great but he's a lovely green. His buddy is in the background.

Of the other seeds I planted (Noble Concubine, Mixed and Violet Siam), I think I'll get 100% germination. They've all peeked the soil.

Here is my first looks, using a LED so I turned it off. Mine have mostly shed their testa. Looks like a 7th seed trying to come up but might peter out. I sowed these with some notoriously slow germination lots, Adenium obesum Miniature. I'm not going to put them in the tent until they have some leaves.

Hmmm, I seem to have a huricane bearing down on me. I need to bring everything (especially the seedlings) into the art studio. If any of you are in the path of it, be safe!

I live 30 minutes south of Tampa and it has been raining non-stop for days. Lots of flooding. My community grow project,little babies which I planted August 26 are peaking their little heads out. I am very happy! They are in my back porch under grow lights.

It looks like tomorrow early AM that Hermine is gonna be on top of us. No wind here yet, just constant rain that doesn't seem to change in intensity though it seems that's going to change quite soon. I am thinking that for peace of mind I'll be dragging the seeds inside because they're saying the wind is gonna start hitting us tonight and I don't think a flimsy plastic greenhouse kit is going to do well out there even though I have a few 'weighty' things (teeny-tiny terracotta pots) trying to hold the top down. Hope everyone else is doing good!

I am well! Hermine barely skimmed us and went east of my location. We got rain and very black skies but little wind. All is well here. You be safe!

Well, despite a dog pushing one tray on top of the other, all of mine are still alive. The tray covered, and layed down 10 seedlings, and I lost the original leaves on one. I was worried about that one, but she has a small set coming in now.

I am so glad for all of you that this storm is hurrying north!

lyka - I love the ones that grow short and fat! Do you think that the one with the green caudex will bloom white? I read that somewhere on Ko's website.

So I would really like to know why all mine stay so green and grow tall and skinny and most of the rest I see you guys grow have turned red/brown and start to look plump. I wonder if it's the water/fertilizer or the soil or the amount of light or just the plants are different?

Many variables can and will cause this.

Where do you have them and what conditions are given, i.e. light (natural, artificial), amount of light, temperature, etc. Color of the skin can be just a genetic trait of each seedling.

With everyone living in different parts of the world and giving their own individual conditions available to each of us or what we mimic will make a big difference.

I guess the first thing is to ask you.

What conditions are you applying to your seedlings?

Are you using the clear lid shown in photo?

I noticed with Lyka's seedlings quite a visible fattening and short growth. This I believe is in part to where they are being grown and conditions in Hawaii. Not saying that this cannot be accomplished in you State, but can and will make a difference.

Your seedlings look healthy.

Carrie mine look like yours too, but they just sprouted and are indoors. Give them 4 weeks they will catch up.

I removed the lid from mine today. Was hoping to see better germination out of the Adenium obesum Mini whites that I sowed with these. My Pachypodium brevicaule are all germinating now so that is some consolation. 6 out of 8 for me on the Grow Out seeds.

I used the container with the lid closed on top of my T5 light (heat source) until a few were above soil, then opened the lid and moved to a bright window with 3-4 hours direct sunlight and 3+ hours bright indirect light. Gave plain water for the last week and just moved up to half strength foliage.

Hermine came and went. Just windy and pouring rain, then went eerily quiet after. Lights didn't go out so that's a cause for celebration!

I inspected them last night when I brought them inside. You can sort of figure out who the six latecomers are; they're wearing their hats pretty hard right now. I've been trying to keep them somewhat moist so that they'll break apart easier for the leaves.

The only thing I've been using on them is chamomile tea to make sure the white hairy fungus doesn't return after its initial appearance a few days into this. Seems to be working pretty well right now.

Carol, Yes, I saw that on Mr. Ko's website too. I am not sure. It might be. (: I like surprises when it comes to my adenium obesum plants (:

Carrie, I believe they will catch up. I had put mine outside since i started them and I don't know if thats the reason - usually 85 F or more during days and 75 F or more at night where I am located.

Mine are looking wimpy.. 7 or 10 out of 15 so far. too lazy to take a picture LOL.. I put mine out by the pool in the sun and I catch my husband putting water on them from the pool.. I was like what are you doing? NO TOUCHA the babies.. It's a salt water pool but salt is converted to chlorine.. What the heck??

Spacecoast. Should you rinse the seedlings for the salt. I think that would help.

This morning I sowed 6 seeds for the grow out and 6 each of 4 other varieties I ordered at the same time from Ko. This was my first morning without rain. I've received almost 20" since the first of Hermine's moisture started reaching us on the west coast of Florida! Mine will be outside, as I did the last set of seeds that way from Tracy and got 6 of 10 seedlings from those.

I only had a few of the 6 cell trays and that is what I used this morning with 4 of the varieties. The fifth went into a community pot. I'm going to go to HD and see if I they have any of those 6 cell trays... mine were from last year when I purchased some Mexican Heather.

Marcia, Would you like some seeds to try again? I would be happy to mail you 5 of the ones I received. :-)

Tracy, were your mini seeds from Mr Ko? I ordered some mini (mixed) at the same time as the seeds forvthe grow-out, and only 8 (of 15) germinated. A little disappointing....

Sandy, we don't have a pool, but my other half always seems to think he knows better how and when to water our plants, and then kills them of course... I know he's only trying to help, but just leave them alone, and if I ask you, do exactly how I tell you to do it.... *sigh*

Well, my KO Community Grow Out seeds didn't make it. A few of them sprouted right off but then got too much sun I think. I have many other KO seedlings doing great but, not going to re-order this late in my year. Good luck to everyone! ;)

Jerry, I'm with you, and I hate it whenever I do that. However, a few weeks ago I had started an email with "please find attached" and pressed the send button before adding the attachment. Instead of sending out the email, Outlook popped up a message saying something like "have you forgotten the attachment". Great new feature! Now I'm so focused on seeing this message again that I can't forget to add the attachment again... lol

Hyn, so sorry for you that you grow-out seeds didn't make it. Hopefully the other seedlings will, so do keep us posted on them.

Thank you! As I still have about 400 seedlings flourishing, I can hardly complain. I'm very happy with them! ;) I am also enjoying your posts in other threads, Conny and I'll keep tabs on this one.

Carrie, the seedlings need as much sunlight as you can provide and warmth too. Supplemental light during the evening is an option if only from a regular lamp.

Apparently my seeds were lost in transit, so KO shipped out another batch on the 7th. Can't wait to get planting with you guys.

I sowed 6 of the grow out seeds on the 4th and I finally have one that popped through the soil this morning. I hope that's not the only one. :-(

Happy Friday everyone. I know some are just getting started. What are your thoughts on starting a new thread where everyone posts photographs of their seeds/seedlings no matter what their status along with their sowed date, age, and remind us all of your location and current weather conditions. This will replace the recording stats in the spreadsheet (from last year's grow out) and I think will be a nice way of documenting our progress periodically.

I'm in for whatever. I don't know anything about previous grow out methods of recording, so my opinion isn't based on history, but I think the new post just has to be done and everyone will follow. This one is getting a bit long and hard to go back and find info. I know Marica mentioned it much earlier in the post. I will use her suggested name and make the post.
