Awesome yard!! Love the tub of flowers!! What a great idea!! Flowers look perfect, almost too pretty to be real and I mean that as a compliment.Wow!! Could you tell me what kind of fertilizer you use and how often? Do you spray for pests or diseases? I don't like spray, but I had to for J.B's.

Ok, this what I do:

Spring wake up (when first leaves appear):

• 2 cups alfalfa meal
• 1/4 cup bone meal
• 1/4 cup Epsom salts
• 1 1/4 cup rose Tone
• Chelated iron power (applied according to label instructions)
• Top dress the entire garden with a heavy mulch of composted leaf matter I get free from the township.

-- Also, during the winter I spread glacier dust around the entire garden, according to recommended rates. Not sure how much this helps, but I tend to think it makes the entire garden grow more lush. I have no real evidence of this other than my own, perhaps shoddy, anecdotal observations.

During summer:

• Rose Tone once a month at recommended rates.
• Neptune's Harvest rose and flower formula as a foliar and soil drench every few weeks.

--My use of the Neptune's Harvest is new this year and I fear I overdid it a bit and caused some fert burn. So I've dialed it back to using it every three or so weeks.

As for pests/disease -- I use Bayer fungicide for Blackspot/Rust/Mildew (This is the only chemical I use in the garden).

I don't spray for Japanese Beetles at all. I find them impossible to combat, so i just let them run rampant for the short duration of their lives.

For all other pests I use beneficial nematodes and lady bugs. Lady bugs are a must!

Prettypetals -- the rest of my yard is still a work in progress (meaning still taking out a lot of scrub and trying to get the grass growing).

Ken -- To be honest, I have no idea what the climber is. It's one of the few mystery roses I have.

Absolutely magnificent. One of the prettiest garden shots I've seen! Is the dark rose in the first picture Burgundy Iceberg, and if so, is that one plant or multiple plants.

Just beautiful! Your garden pictures look like Pinterest spreads. Well done so far. You should take some close up pics of your mystery rose. I'm sure someone on this forum could ID it for you.

dizzylizzy, yes the Iceberg in the first pic is one plant. It's the same plant as shown in the second picture, which is a row of 4 plants, both white and burgundy.

One more pic, late summer now. This is just inside of fence shown in the pictures above. There are roses in this pic, but have yet to break into their fall bloom. They are just now recovering from a seasonal Japanese Beetle infestation!

Very nice. I too also have a border of yellow & orange marigolds. Love the pop of colour you can see from afar! Please post pics of the roses when they bloom!

Just found this delicious post and wanted to say thanks for sharing your beautiful roses and garden! I especially love the bird house , is it decorative or do you get some renters ? ;) I love pretty birdhouses and would snatch one up like that in a heartbeat .

A family of house wrens is born in the birdhouse every year. I got that one at a local amish butcher.

I've only just seen this thread and as everyone else has said, you have a beautiful garden there, with wonderful roses. I admire your feeding and maintenance regime, although it might be a bit too much for me, but the results speak for themselves..

Maybe I get some glacial dust [?] at some point....

Wow, awesome garden. I have always loved the idea of the low fence with roses spilling over it. I am debating whether to do this with my yard reno next year. Your pic of GT is exactly the result I want when I tried growing this rose two times. Mine is currently on its third year and it is no way near yours.
