2016 Garlic Harvest

2016 was a great year here at Crooked Clove Garlic Farm. We planted 32 varieties on the farm and most did quite well. All the garlic is harvested and hanging, about 4,000lbs total. Harvest was a bit later this year than normal, probably due to a cool and cloudy spring. We planted 7 inches apart in rows spaced 9 inches apart. This year, we will probably space them closer in a 6in apart in rows 7in apart layout. We mulched heavily with non sprayed hay and due to good luck with rain, only had to irrigate once. We used an undercutter to help with harvest and it made pulling the garlic a breeze! We have about two weeks of down time before we clip and clean the garlic bulbs, then ship it all over the country!

Our best performers were Carpathian, Bogatyr, Chesnok Red, Turkish Red, Korean Red, Russian Inferno, Spanish Roja, French Red, Lorz Italian, Romanian Red, Armenian, Lautrec Pink, and Ukrainian Red.
