Good for you Stuart. I have 2 Boncels and you are right -- they are pretty fast growers, compared to some other Sans. As I was repotting one, I broke a leaf off. As Boncel leaves go, it was sizable -- so I just stuck it in Turface fines and let it sit unwatered and with no direct sun. Sure enough, the rhizome did its underground thing and now there's a new leaf coming up. He has already been repotted into more suitable mix. Boncels are among my favorites!

My Boncel has exploded as well, Stuart! I love that plant.

How much sun are you all giving them ? I have my Boncels on my fire escape, which faces North. They get morning sunlight until about 11am. Manuel

Something about my Boncels and all these other Sans that I've been seeing/buying lately. They seem to grow them in a moisture retentive mix, yet they are all gorgeous. Not sure if I should repot them in something grittier. One of them is forcing me to do a repot soon, since it's growing a big rhyzome through one of the drainage holes.

I had the same thing, Manuel, with my Boncel. I bought it potted in a very moisture retentive soil and didn't do anything to it at first besides put it outside under a tree. I think the tree kept it from getting too wet though. It was busting out of the pot so I reported it into a gritty mix but more sun. It is still growing like gangbusters. I think it's just a robust plant.

Like Manuel, I have my two Boncels in morning sun (along with my third, the "leaf that's growing a leaf"). They are outside on a covered lanai. The lanai faces south, but it is covered by my roof so it gets bright FL light but little direct sun after 10 or 11 a.m. (I live in a condo community, so I don't have any more choices about where to put them. It's the lanai or no plants.)

Like everyone, I bought my plants in water-retentive mix. I call it "drowning in peat." I repotted them all, just thinking the peat-based soil wasn't a good idea. Maybe repotting wasn't a good idea, after reading your thoughts. Mine are growing well -- fast compared to other Sans. They are in a mix of 1/3 sieved C/S soil (usually Fafard), 1/3 sifted & washed perlite and 1/3 washed pumice. They are all in plastic pots, and I don't water often, maybe just once every 7-9 days. From what I am reading here, I need to check their "dryness" and maybe water more often. Good discussion, all. Thank you!

I belong to a couple of facebook pages based in Asia. In Thailand they just seem to grow their Sans wetter and lusher than we do over here.

Manuel, I agree. I don't participate on Facebook, but the photos I have seen of Boncels (and other Sans) from Thai growers always look better than what I see in the U.S. I console myself thinking they are professionals or commercial growers (or maybe they are not). In reality…we all grow the best we can in the conditions we have. Mine are not perfect, and like you, there are lots of improvements I can't make in my immediate environment. My Boncels look big, long and not as thick and robust compared to the Thai growers. But -- I give them the best care I can and try to keep them alive. That's all we can ask.

Three days of rain and my plants are soaked. I checked the boncel and saw pup number 3 coming up. Too early to see if there will be any damage from overwatering on anything.
