I have a varety
of lines that I have had for years due to trying to find a better line. Plus, I ask the same questions on. I can
not break them pulling. I feel the trimmer is melting them from flexing from
cutting too much. I have gone to a hard
blade due to this problem that works well with a wheel on sidewalks vs general trimming.

I feel there is some good tuff line out there due to
some mowing I saw a fellow doing recently in heavy grass w/o bening gental.

Water soaking is a Myth ! The modern or even two decades ago line is made to be impervious to moisture . Abrasive materials and Texas Heat are the krypton to Trimmer lines. Use common sense and keep your line in a cool area out of Uv Rays while in storage ! Overheating your line while in use or storage will diminish it's life cycle accordingly !!!!

The real damage to polymer line really only comes from oxygen, because polymer can oxidize, especially in heat where the heat energy assists the oxidation reaction. Kinda weird to call it rust, which is a color, and iron oxidation, but the plastic "rust" is white typically. Silicone is resistant to oxygen, plates well to the surfaces of plastic and is resistant to heat. A little silicon spray helps those machines immensely, and helps them clean up better too.

Thanks. I had always suspected that improving the life of trimmer line by water soaking was just a myth. But it may be that water is actually helps some, not so much because the line absorbs water, but because the water just shields the line from atmospheric oxidizers. Silicone spray is a nice idea.

I just have a semi-antique Echo GT-200 which doesn't have bump-feed, so getting line that lasts is of some importance.
