Bath mats or long runner?

I love tile in bathrooms but am very cold nature so hate to walk or stand on cold tile. Even in the summer the ac makes the floors so cold!

In my current bathroom I have room for a mat in front of the shower, one in front of my sink and another in the little room where the toilet is.

The new bathroom is one long narrow space so I may have to do one long runner. Is that just weird, does it read as a carpeted bathroom? I found 2 really cute outdoor rugs from Ballards that I like. Oh, and I will also have a water bowl for my dogs tucked into the area where the closet is, so a rug helps with drips.

The other option is a 3x5 in front of the sink/shower area and a little mat in front of the toilet.

I like the clean, uniform look of the long runner. Looks like it's going to be really nice! Visually, it will make the room look deeper with the uninterrupted line.

One long runner would look better. A couple smaller ones could be washed in the washing machine.

Is it Aktillery who has the "regular" rug in her bathroom? It's beautiful. I love "regular" rugs on bathroom and kitchen floors. Get one of the polypropylene rugs from eSale, where Aktillery got hers. They're inexpensive comfortable underfoot, and can handle the dampness.

If the runner is in front of the shower where you step out, will it be close enough to the sink and the toilet?

I wouldn't want a rug anywhere near my toilet (can't tell how close the runner would come, but to my mind it's still too close for comfort). I'd go for the smaller mat.

I also agree that I'd never have a rug in front of the toilet; however, the OP seemed to have an issue with the cold tile floor and I was wondering if the runner would be in a place to satisfy her cold feet. lol.

Let me say that this is my bathroom, dh will have a separate bathroom.

Currently I buy a stack of the $2 small oval bath mats from ikea for the spot in front of the toilet. They get washed regularly and when the backing starts to break down I have extras in the linen closet.

I use mats in my bathroom so I can throw them in the wash.

These are some I found at Ballard.

I don't have rugs in my bathroom, but I do have a polypropylene rug in my dining room on which dogs sometimes do all kinds of icky things. I just use my steam mop on it, and I add white vinegar if it's a smelly mess Takes care of it beautifully.

I would use the first Ballard 5x7 along with the washable mats you already have for the toilet area. I think this would be more functional even though the runner might "look" better!
