July 2016 Blooms - part 1

Please enjoy. Helen

Compared with Abracadabra, Stranger is a pretty strong rose. Love it.

It took me a long time to find Black Magic but it's amazing. In my powdery mildew garden, it has no disease at all. The blooms are perfect. It has no fragrance but I don't think it's a big deal in this case.

Marilyn Monroe is very healthy in my garden. It's like a Black Magic in a different color.

Neil Diamond is one of the perfect roses. It has everything one could wish for in a rose.

Strawberry Hill is very health in my garden. I bought it for its big blooms and the vase life. I figured with the hot temperature if I start out with a big-bloom rose I still have decent size blooms in summer. It exceeds expectation. The blooms are big and gorgeous. It is last pretty long time for an Austin rose and I like its fragrance.

Wow! even more beauties! My STRANGER hasn't gotten that good. I need to feed it or something. Yours is just gorgeous! Love your STRAWBERRY HILL too! Mine just sits and does nothing... Maybe it's my hotter climate.

    Thank you Ingida & Beth.

Beth, I got two of my Stranger roses from Burlington and I think she sent me very healthy plants and gave them a good start. Great lady!

Is your Strawberry Hill own root? I bought mine from Regan which grafted on Dr Huey. I heard that Austin own root will take a lot of time to be amazing (especially climbers), but I haven't been able to verify it yet since I don't have any own root Austin. I just moved my root bounded Strawberry Hill from a 5-gallon and plant it in the ground next to the fence so I can train them horizontally. I think it will be beautiful when the training is done. Lovely blooms! My two DA grafted Strawberry Hill are still less than a foot tall after 7 months in the ground. Hoping for more growth next year. I'm thinking of moving mine to grow up a trellis. Good luck with your SH training!

Yes, Black Magic is amazing in my garden. I planted my two Black Magic roses near PJPII and I really like the color combination of red and white together. Helen

That would be very striking! :)

    'Strawberry Hill' looks wonderful!

Does 'Black Magic' have darker flowers than what the camera captures? Do they change with extreme heat? Thanks.

Yes Irisgal, Black Magic color changes depend on the weather and gets darker when the weather gets cooler. It also depends on how much sun the plants have. Less sun the color will be darker. Helen

Ok. Now I have to commit that to memory for a friend new to rose growing who has fallen in love with the black-reds.
