Amazing!

I started one batch of obesum in July, and another in September of last year. The September batch was the first time I'd ever cut all the tap roots. Since that time, I have decided that all obesum will have their tap roots cut off.

However, my technique is a bit different. At around 1-2 months, I just trim the tap off and place them right back into the medium. No glue, no drying time at all. I tried gluing a disk to the bottom on my first try, but the only additional effect from that was that the roots had a wide spread, and I wound up with fewer roots. With my technique, I have some plants with 5-6 roots where the tap was, and another 'cage' of roots around the perimeter. I'll see if I can locate some pictures of this.

I was always wondering if you cut a tap root off in a young seedling, you will probably kill all other roots while drying the cut. Thanks for sharing Jerry, now I feel more comfortable to try :)

When I cut the tap, I leave the surrounding roots. There are always some, and I leave them to support the little guy.

Honestly, I'm the type to read like crazy, and then create my own plan from that, and I just don't buy the need to let these plants sit for a week to dry. I believe that if you have a healthy, strong plant, it will be fine.

Now, don't get me wrong, I let my oldest plant stay hanging for about a month and a half this past winter, but that was to adjust roots.

Just make sure they're growing, rather than dormant, and replant them. They heal just like any other healthy thing with a small cut.

Good read, Jerry. Thanks. I really like the results you have gotten. Definitely what I prefer in root structure. Going to give it a go with some of my new seedlings, not yet started.
