That's a nice looking Gomphrena. I love to grow them; so easy and sturdy.....and fast to bloom.

Thanks for this. Given that mine will go in a container it would be better to have a smaller stature gomphrena. Is "Audray" short or tall?

A lady I worked with in NY years ago used to have a Nursery grow gomphrena specifically for her every year. She dried the blossoms then used them to make the most gorgeous wreaths at Christmas. Rouge, have you 'saved' any to use later?

I found gomphrena difficult. The few to germinate quickly dampened off. Any tips?

'jennifer' , I got my seeds on-line. I put the whole packet into the container you see in the pictures, covered them with garden variety potting soil and watered. I guess ignorance is bliss for me ;).

Jennifer, since we don't know anything about your techniques, all I can do is suggest the best practices for this plant.....factors that I personally am careful about.

Your planting mix must be very coarse textured so that it drains rapidly. After germination, the seedlings should only be watered when the medium becomes a little dry....it should never be kept consistently moist.

I germinate all of my different kinds of seeds in seed flats, then transplant them when tiny into their individual cell packs with my favorite 'fast' potting mix. Gomphrena will get watered less frequently than most other varieties.

My growing chamber is kept on the cool side once the germination process is over; a couple of small fans keep the air circulating.

These plants are practically xeric in my experience. That's how I treat them for their entire time with me.

Rhizo - thank you for the instructions. I'll keep 'em dry next year. I had zero luck germinating in soil. Then I put gomphrena seeds on paper towels in plastic bags in the kitchen window and they ALL germinated quickly. I transplanted to cells, they looked great , second set of leaves, then died. I'm new to annuals by seed (other than the bullet proof zinnias and cosmos that I direct sow.) I'm keeping notes and will try again next year.
