How to vent?

DH and I are closing on a home in a couple of weeks. We will be replacing the asphalt roof with a standing seam metal roof. The roofer is strongly discouraging me from venting the range through the roof. How can I add a vent?

Is it possible, or wise, to run the vent into the wall, then down and out through the wall just about the sill? Or am I going to remain unvented until I can move the range to an outside wall?

You may want to consult an alternative roofer. Normally there are many penetrations of a roof for such as: required plumbing venting, attic ventilation, bathroom ventilation, fireplaces, etc. If your kitchen cooktop ventilation is powerful enough, you may prefer to have a make-up air intake somewhere on the roof.

You could put a chimney chase on the outside of the house and run a duct up it.

You can go down and out, but such a path is less efficient. The exit would want to be higher than a statistically rare deep snowfall level.

Why not, once you are into the wall, vent via a cap at the level you entered the wall?

One issue is; it doesn't look good. Roof has clean lines and a solid color, even after painting the vent and flashing look like a patch job.

Kas, I don't understand this "Why not, once you are into the wall, vent via a cap at the level you entered the wall?"

Currently, the bathrooms vent through the soffits, and the furnace is a direct vent, so there are no roof penetrations at all. A chimney chase would work except it would be on the front side of the house.

It sounds like through the roof is the only option?

That is strange, my GC advised the same thing, but I
think for a different reason. He wanted me to vent through the wall right
behind the stove, but that is where my future covered deck is supposed to go
and I explained I did not want hot air flowing out where people were going to
be walking AND it would be under my patio roof.. which, again, seemed to be a
bad idea to me.

I think he did not want to do the work it took to run it
up and "jog it over" to the other side as the framing on the pitched
roof would be in the way to take it straight up.

I will look forward to seeing what others say as well.

Plumbing vent covers are common on Metal roofs. There should be no issue putting a vent through a metal roof.

I merely meant that instead of running a duct down the wall to near ground level, put the cap higher at the level you entered the wall from the other side. Of course, I have no idea what is outside your wall, so I only intended this as a potential option.
