ideas for this space

I am stumped on paint colors and flooring for our new home. We love color and had vibrant rooms in our old house. Example:

Our new home is so different, I am struggling a bit with how much or how intense the color can be, especially given the cathedral ceilings/large expanses of wall.

The kitchen is open to the living room. The kitchen faces almost due north, the living room windows east and south.

Clearly, the kitchen flooring needs to go! (as does the stupid island, Darth Vader fridge, etc.).

We are going for a contemporary to modern look (as best we can with the bones). We plan an IKEA kitchen using Brokhult or Torham cabinets. I like the idea of a robin's egg blue in the kitchen.... but am stumped on flooring and the other rooms' paint colors.

For flooring, I don't want tile or carpet. In the kitchen, I'm leaning toward luxury vinyl plank (although why it is called luxury is a mystery to me) or sheet vinyl. For the living room, I am not sure. I am leaning toward a mid-tone shade, maybe gray, but should it be vinyl plank, engineered wood, or even a contemporary pattern of sheet vinyl with some great rugs.

The LR is 14'X16', the kitchen/dining area is 13'x2'0 plus. The tv will go on the green wall shown below. I would want to make that wall a darker accent color. Where to start?
