None here in our area of Adair Co yet. Last Tuesday we went to Tahlequah--18 miles away--and it poured on us while there, but nothing here. So we are still hoping for some.

I sure hope you get some, too, Mulberryknob. Just the rain would be awesome and a cool-down would be bonus!

We had about three sizable showers last week, sprinkles on Friday, nothing yesterday. It's hard to believe, but I was weeding last night and the garden needs water already!

We got a measley 8/100s of an inch. My garden is done. The garden and I were barely hanging on throughout the entire month of August, and I had to water every other day during the last week to keep it alive. If I didn't water, the plant foliage twisted, curled and withered. I was counting on getting an inch or two or maybe even three inches of rain with this big cold front and figuring it would help save the garden. Without that rain, I am closing the garden gate and abandoning the garden. It is the only thing that makes sense. Our July water bill was horrible. I refuse to run up that kind of water bill for August. It is what it is. I can't change the weather. so I'm changing my approach. If rain returns before all my seedlings in paper cups die (I am watering them and keeping them under shade cloth), I'll plant a fall garden. If rain doesn't return, I won't.

I haven't started any seedlings. I am hoping for enough rain before the 1st of Sept to direct sow some fall veggies. If we don't get it, I will just seed the greenhouse the end of Sept and be glad I have it.

The Mesonet shows us with .62" for the past month, but I think we got closer to 2-3 inches. Oldbusy, I'll bet that 2" seemed like manna from heaven to your soil, but probably still not enough. Stockergal, I feel your pain. I've been watering, hoping it would bring the rain, but nothing. DH said it's supposed to rain tomorrow, but I'll believe it when I see it. Rebecca, don't you hate it when it gets your hopes up. I hope it at least cooled it down and didn't just make things muggier. George, I believe the ground just sucks it up and the sun dries it out. I try to water early in the morning or late at night so I can get my weeding done immediately, or the ground is so hard you have to break it with a pickaxe! Gosh, Dawn, is there actually a rain gauge you can read that small of an amount on? I just knew you were in for a good rain, darn it! The optimist in me wants to believe we've got some rain coming this week for all of us. I sure hope he's right, because the pessimist is saying, "Whatever!"

Our electronic rain gauge measures down as low as .01. The regular ones that you have to go outside and look at visually are marked in tenths, I think, and I just guesstimate what the amount is if the water line falls between the tenths.

I am not going to pay any attention to the forecast because I think they will be wrong, wrong, wrong again. If we were forecast to get over 3" (and we were) and we only got 0.08", then I am waiting for the QPF to show us getting 0.08" and maybe then we'll get 2-3".

Hey all. My garden is gone. My last water bill was horrible, and the bugs have pretty much killed everything except peppers. I abandoned all my seedlings because I just can't deal with the insect population and the water bills. If we get some really good rain, I may throw some seeds out there, but that's it. Plus, my arthritis has been a bear, and I just can't deal with it right now. I hope some of y'all get a good fall garden in.

I'm sorry, Mary. I hear you on the arthritis! Bugs are giving me trouble right now, too. Don't know where my ladybugs went! I'm still fighting. We'll see what happens.

I am sad y'all have to let it go. At some point it makes sense doesn't it. We have had no rain to speak of either and I am not really sure what I am going to do about the fall garden. If I can't get help I may have to look at other options.

Mary, you have to take care of yourself. I was diagnosed with sciatica that bothers my left leg and mild arthritis in my left hip. I take an anti-inflammatory med that has helped a lot, but it isn't 100%. At least now I can weed a little better, though.

I wish you all the best on a fall garden. There's no way I could do it with school starting back anyway. Between the watering and weeding, I'm lucky to keep up with what exists without a veggie garden. If I can't do it right, it's a waste of time and water for me. Even though we have a well, I worry about it drying up with the drought. Next predicted rain for us is Wednesday with improving chances through Friday. Fingers crossed.

Mary, I am sorry for all your troubles. Believe me, I understand about the garden. When you get to the point that all you're doing is just keeping the plants alive for the bugs to eat, you have to let it go. It is never easy to stop watering and to walk away, but there are times when it is not only the best option, but also really the only option. There is no shame in knowing when to quit---in fact, I consider it a sign of strength and intelligence to know when you've reached the point that quitting makes sense. Our climate can be brutal on gardens in July and August even in the best of years, and there is no way that 2016 has come close to being one of the best of years either.

Now, take it easy and work on coping with your arthritis. Rest. Pamper yourself. Maybe if you are not working so hard in the garden and canning in the kitchen for endless hours, your body will get some relief too.

It is so easy to overdo things and hurt our bodies when we are delightfully working in our gardens from late winter through late summer or even well into autumn and it sounds to me like your body has had all it can take for now, so please do take care of yourself.

While I appreciate that I am still alive and kicking, I wish I would have appreciated having a younger, healthier body back when I had one! Aging is not for sissies, and the aches and pains that get worse every year remind us that we are not spring chickens any longer. That's a bitter pill to swallow!

I miss the days when I could work outside from sunup to sunset and not pay for it with a multitude of aches and pains. Now, when I tackle a garden chore of any kind, in my mind I am calculating how much I am going to "pay" for a day spent gardening, with the payment being extracted as fatigue, aches, pains, and the need for a mid-afternoon nap so I can summon up the energy to make dinner later on. Luckily, Tim is aging right along with me so he understands the slower pace nowadays as well as the occasional afternoon nap. I'm pretty sure our son thinks we are turning into ancient, aging fuddy-duddies right in front of him. Ah, to be young again! His time will come just like our time has come, and one day a very few decades from now, he'll be looking in the mirror, like we do now, and wondering who in the heck that old person is that is staring back at him.
