If you are in the far north of the USA they might have to be grown under lights in the winter.

To get more detailed culture advice you have to tell the readers where you are in the USA because cultural methods vary a lot between say Florida and Michigan.

As for cutting the pseudobulb, some Cattleyas form a sheath at the top of the pseudobulb to protect the developing flower buds. No need to cut the sheath, let nature take its course.

Of the orchids pictured I think only one is savable. So do some more research, drink some more blood thinner, and maybe buy a few new plants.

Re. the name; Cattle layers Cattle leahs and so on. Covers a lot of territory and the name comes from William Cattley, just add an a onto Cattley and you will be close.

I'm no super expert but I agree only no.1 will live to see another day. I also think that no.2 went too dry. Its in almost no soil mix...nothing to hold water. Fine in a greenhouse terrible in a dry home. No 3 pretty much the same reasons.

Every 11 days when its going bone dry too often did them in. In winter yes,but in the long days of summer..bad.

Alcohol affects another American family!..kidding..

they like light and to be kept moist and misted. I moved mine outside last year and it was on deaths door. Kept it here on this wall all year long and poof! magic. (its the one in bloom! 4 of them and they smell great)
