Kitchen pulls with character - help a botha out! lol

last modified: 10 years ago

Okay, it is rainy outside.. no work on the house in the past two weeks (don't get me started...lol) and the rain is expected for at least a week.. so no work now either..

SO.. on topic here.. I wanted to browse around for some cool pulls etc for the kitchen.

Now, we have easy/soft close doors and drawers... and I am thinking they will need pulls. I REALLY loved some pulls someone found in an older thread that were some old mfg company from the turn of the century warehouse...but finding enough of them that match could be tough.. and keeping it below 2 million bucks.. lol

So.. anyone else bored today want to see what sort of cool pulls etc we can find for shaker farmhouse cabinets in this color?:

Not sure what else you want to see, you all know the layout, but I can post it again if ya like.

Just doing this out of boredom.. heh

We picked out some cool vanities, but since this is a kitchen forum figured to stay on topic ;)

Hrm... if we add pulls to ALL of the cabs and drawers, we are looking at like 49 cabs and 29 drawers.

Not sure if we need/want pulls on the 12" cabs above the 42" ones though.

Probably will want to get a few extras just in case.. may never be able to locate them again if we get that many.. heh

    heh.. thanks!

I found a picture a year or so ago on here. I emailed the builder/cabinet company and they said they did that kitchen like 10 years ago and had a ton of requests through the years for the color match and never shared it, but my email was so "nice" they actually sent me the only sample they had of the color for me to match.

    Here's the original picture:

The company is Hanson and Co. To me, that was an awesome kitchen. While ours will not be the same, the color should match pretty close.

In hindsight, not sure we will be using pulls. I just looked at one corner of the kitchen and there are 3 drawers with the other corner having drawers. At my ranch, we are always bumping knobs on the opposing drawers so I am not sure I want that to happen here. Then again, I may need to just change one side to a cabinet.

See the far corner? That, to me, may pose an issue of always knocking the drawers together.

lol.. cannot do longhorn etc.. or my wife may try to put a Razorback on there.. hah!

Still debating that corner. We have plenty of time to think about it.. so may drop those drawers and the trash bin next to it and make that a cabinet so the handles do not bump. We will see.

Was having fun.. now back to reading every freakin thread and being bored.. hehe

LOVE the color of the cabinet, but I'm a polished brass pull girl myself. And I prefer that ALL the cabinets have the same pulls - can look "choppy" otherwise. Gorgeous kitchen inspiration picture!

Anglo - I am with ya.. once we decide what to do about that corner.. we will figure out the pulls. I had a simplistic idea in mind till I started reading threads on here and they made sense. We can use the same pull, but need to fit the length/size to the width of the drawers/cabinets or it will look wierd.

We found some pulls we liked, but they were like 2.5" wide. That may look pretty weird on a 30" drawer.

So, gotta figure what to do with that corner. If we keep it, can't add pulls because it will also look weird if all the drawers etc have pulls except those 3.

If we want pulls, we have to change the three drawers and the joining trash pull-out to just a regular cabinet or three drawers....i.e. drop the trash pullout.

Comes down to, do we really care about the pull out?

Also, do drawers on both sides of that corner work?

May need to do a large cabinet on the right side and a lazy susan inside, like was suggested.

So many things to consider ;)

Is it too late to put a filler in that corner or a lazy susan to avoid your potential problem with the pulls?

Just a thought: it's much better to knock hardware against hardware than it is to knock hardware against wood, especially with that gorgeous finish. In corners, something always has the potential to hit the opposite side, but while pull to pull may make noise, it doesn't ruin your cabinet finish.

I can't wait to see your reveal!

    Pull and knob ideas follow...

@blfenton - not too late, we just know that we have a lot of things we need them to watch and as long as the drawers work correctly, we are fine.

I am going to keep looking at it and then touch base with them in a week or so and discuss it further. Right now, the rain is delaying them a week and then another week or two before they start ours, so we have time.

I don't want to hit them up for changes too fast.. lol

We also will have to install our own hardware for pulls, so, no rush to pick those out yet.

@eam44 - I love the top ones.. have a link to where those can be found?

World Market offers some nice ceramic knob, though I'm not sure the colors work with your green. World Market knobs

They also had this bronze flower knob:

The last house.. omg.. they had these old brass looking grape clusters. Don't get me wrong, they may have totally rocked a farm kitchen.. heh.. but they were horrible in that house :P

Sure. I've never purchased from Ali Express but others may have, and you may be able to find the hardware elsewhere as well, once you google the specifics. Glad you like them!

I used the same size pulls on everything - cabinets, 36" wide drawers and a 6" pull-out. It works if you choose the right pulls.

Someone had posted old typesetter's drawer pulls he collected off eBay and they were pretty cool.

I've never priced it but maybe you could get lucky and find the furniture with pulls still attached and it would be cheaper? And take the pulls? Maybe if you had gardenweb peeps that like to antique looking locally for you? Also, I don't think they would have to match, just go together and make sense in their placement. But I'm weird like that.

Love your cabinet color and treatment!

Thanks! Yes, we are waiting till it is done to pick stuff out that way we can "see" it. But, that being said, I have thought along the exact same lines of finding an apothecary cabinet or something and removing the pulls ;)

    We shall see!
