I had a steel table from Home Depot that rusted. So I built this one out of western red cedar. A very rot resistance wood. The table provides various micro-climes as you can see. There is full, morning, afternoon sun and shade.

The biggest risk to rot is the contact point on the floor. Water will wick up on the bottom end grain. So I screwed on a small piece of starboard which is high density polyethylene. The same chemicals as the plastic bags at the grocery store, but higher density. It is very tough and it keep the wood feet dry.

This is not cheap to build. The cedar is priced high but the hidden cost is the stainless steel screws. There is a bunch of them, mostly hidden from view. Screws were about as much as the wood. But worth it. I expect several more years of service due to all the materials used.
