Water/fertilize after flowers fade?

Should you continue to water and fertilize after flowers fade, while the bulb is photosynthesizing? It occurred to me that I water and feed the amaryllis all season (because they keep growing and stay green all summer - they move outside in the spring and back in at fall) but I don't do the same for other bulbs that die back sooner (crocus, tulips, daffs, glads, etc.). I quit watering and feeding them as soon as they're done flowering. If there's a heat wave or drought, they crisp and brown right away. Other times they'll last for weeks/couple months depending on the weather. Would I get better results if I kept them hydrated and regular fertilizer until they're done photosynthesizing - do the bulbs benefit from that for next year's show? Thanks.
