Hi everybody,

I have seven figs that I bought this spring from wellspring nurseries. They were baby plants, maybe 4 or 5 inches in height when shipped, that I have been growing in 8" and 10" pots. Having had them for about 6 months they have not grown as fast as I would have expected and I am wondering if it is because they need to be repotted? Some of them do indeed have roots poking out through the bottom at this point. I have read on these forums that people are planting their figs in 5 gallon buckets, on up to 10 and 25 gallon buckets. Might my figs be stunted by these clay pots?

My second question is: Is it too soon in the year for me to "pot up" these figs to 5 gallons from the 8 and 10 inch clay pots they are in? I live in zone 6, CT so these plants will all come inside for dormancy in the winter. Is it better I repot them now while they are in an active state or should I repot in the fall when they are dormant? Attached are pictures of what the plants look like.
