Pale Palm

Hi,

I've kept potted palms for years, but this one is giving me trouble and thought perhaps someone can help. This Highland Coconut (Beccariophoenix alfredii) has become progressively paler with each new leaf. The plant is in a sunny window from early October to late April-ish, and outside with about 4-5 hours of full sun, watered daily when the temps are over 80 (good drainage). While outside receives a monthly fertilizing of Carl Pool

palm food. Any tips, I'd hate to lose this one.

I have one of these too. Looks nice, I wanna give mine some lovin' after looking at yours, which does not look too bad. Some palms bleach in full sun and it has been freakin' hot and bright. Not sure about the ecosystem of this one, but some tropicals are more understory palms and may not appreciate the full, direct rays..., I had some burning on my Caryota (Fishtail) and moved it into shade. It might also be fertilizer related..., sometimes it's the micronutrients. Not sure what fertilizer that is that you mentioned, I just applied Osmocote Plus to mine. Try a bit of shading in the meantime. Good luck.

The soil needs to be much dryer. I've grown them for many years in full sun and water every 2-3 days when it's 95F during the day. They are heavy feeders that requite full micro elements, especially iron.
