Rosie, that is beautiful! Was part of this forum way back in 2009. Then life happened. Now we are getting started again. Have some frozen in time, glacier, bob serbin and gleeful elf. Have ordered some leaves from bloom lovers which come next week. Back to topic, I've been drooling over the Russian/Ukrainian Violet's and have noticed all sorts leaves of amazing ones from Poland and Ireland. Was wondering is anyone has any experiences ordering them and having them shipped to the US and if they get here in good shape. Would love to try some. Thanks everyone. Enjoy your posts!

I saw that variety on Ebay, Rosie. It just doesn't look quite....real, I guess is how I'd describe it. And it reminds me of something - and it took a lot of thinking and thinking before I could come up with it. When I was a kid, my mother had these little plastic flower candle holders that she used on birthday cakes. They were sort of colored like LE-Hozjajka Mednoj Gory, double ruffled like that and it made me chuckle when I thought of them lit up as candle holders.

I've purchased violets on Ebay, but I've never dared to go for any from overseas. Canada is about as adventurous as I've gotten - so far. But there is another Ukrainian violet on Ebay now from Ireland that has me sorely tempted: RS Korsar, see link: RS Korsar on Ebay

Wouldn't you hate to invest 30 bucks or more (with shipping) on a plant -
and have it arrive croaked? There are no guarantees on these. You pay
your price and take your chances! I've also heard it said that many of these Ukrainian/Russian varieties are not grown out several generations before they're released and especially in the case of fantasies may be quite unstable.

That said, there are quite a few other Russians that have me itching, they're so beautiful. But I've already maxed my AV pocket money for the month on a Senk's variety I've been wanting for ages, so I'll just have to wait a year or so and hope these new beauties will be available more easily here in the States someday. Sigh!

I am not sure it will bloom true either. It looks a lttle too good to be true. BUT having said that I love the combination of those colors.

I love color, and I think that is why I never met a violet (or many other things) I didn't love. For the color! Not for what the color is on. Heck I would love those colors on a rose! Put it on Echinacea and I will buy a pot!

And I heard, as you did, that many of the Russian/Ukraine violets are unstable. Lot of money for no guarantees. I will wait (probably for years) before I get a some of them. sigh. But I can dream! (and drool,,,,oops 'scuse me while I get a kleenex!!) Rosie

It blooms correct. 2 plants -grown under high light and under low light.
