I just started some myself outside and they took the longest to sprout out of all my seeds, I think soaking would help you get faster and more germination. I did not know about the two seeds in a pod, that's cool.

Cilantro was tough to grow this year, PcolaGrower! I tried soaking and scattering, but the weather has been too hot (and dry at times) for cilantro to like it. We just had our first cool night of the season, so I may try again... probably not enough growing time now though.

Honestly, my best plants have come from just sticking the round seed in the dirt. I've done it many ways and I think your gut is right, don't worry about trying to split it or soak it.
