Thoughts on this range hood?

This is the range hood my builder uses. What do you think of it? Cosmetically I'm fine with it. I was thinking I would want something wider since our range is 30".

FWIW: I have only ever had one of those microwave over the range deals that don't work at all. So I'm guessing this will be better than anything I have ever encountered. It's in the budget, which is good. I just want to know if there is anything major I should be worried about with this one.

Thankshttp://www.broan.com/products/product/3c1445ff-8ad2-41bf-9976-3bcabde1bdcc

I put a link to the website in the OP. Just added a screen shot. Did that show up?

The rule of thumb is that your hood should be 6" wider than your cooktop. How powerful it should be will depend on your cooktop..... if it is gas (how many BTU's is it) you likely need more than if it is induction. The other consideration is what are you cooking? Are you boiling potatoes or cooking curry?

I would suggest asking your question over on the appliance forum making sure that you give them as much info as possible about your cooktop and your cooking habits.

Thanks. It will just be a glass cooktop. But I cook a lot and do tons with onions, peppers and such. Lots of sauteeing in coconut oil, beef tallow... I was thinking I had read it should be wider than the cooktop.

I have a similar Broan. Mine has center buttons so I don't know if it's the same model. It's three speed and really only exhausts well on high, which is loud. I have a 30" glass cooktop.

I hate cleaning all that hard-to-reach stainless though. I'd use a pro style canopy hood if I had to do it over. Something like this.

Good point about cleaning so high. We will have 9' ceilings but they are doing a soffit above the cabinets. so one like you pictures would work nicely. Do you know the brand?

It will be regular electric cooktop. We told the builder we wanted the hood to duct out.

tammyte, I would look into getting induction. It's more money but there are so many advantages over an electric oven. Read up on induction cooking. Especially with the babies in that the cooktop doesn't get hot so no burnt fingers. And clean up is with soap and water and no harsh chemicals because food doesn't get burnt on.

I looked into induction. It looks great except it won't work with my stainless steel cookware that I adore. I have had it for 14+ years and have no desire to change. But, yes, inductions looks awesome otherwise!

Most companies make the pro-style canopy hoods. I remember looking at a GE Cafe at Lowe's that was about $1000. I doubt it had baffles though.

    This is my chimney hood:

    Broan Elite EW5830SS

It's 500 cfm compared to 450 for your model. It also has three light levels vs. one. It runs about $100 more.

Chimney hoods always look better with 2" or more inches between the hood and the side cabinets. But this allows some of the grease and steam to escape since there's no side cabinets to trap it. However, my kitchen is four years old, and I've only cleaned the sides of those cabinets once and only found a little grease on one cabinet. But I wouldn't crowd a chimney hood with the adjacent cabinets and would go more than 2" if you have room. I like to see some of the backsplash tile to the sides of the hood.

    Thank you!

Tammy, yes it's hard to get rid of cookware we love but you can get a set, 13 pieces, of induction compatible cookware at Costco fo $200. Circulon, anodized aluminum. So worth it. Do consider the big picture and long range. Induction is worth short term sacrifices.

My stainless cookware works with induction. Check it with a magnet. If it is magnetic it will work. I love the induction cooktop. Very fast and easy to clean.

I have checked with a magnet. It doesn't work. Thanks though!
