Thanks tomplum...tractor model # is 247288820...searspartsdirect.com is down for maintenance...but it did show picture of my mower...will try again when site is open after 6am.

Thanks tomplum 331877 Type 0805 E1
for that model # 33R877-0003-G1 is new # for 21hp and maybe 19hp on http://www.psep.biz/store/briggs_and_stratton_8-27hp_vert.htm,  HOW DID YOU DETERMINE it might be a 2007 engine 331877 Type 0805 E1 model #? I had spent hours w/ Sears on 2 8oo #s and 2 chats and the best they could come up with was a MTD engine w/ some model # on it based on my tractor model #. I didn't even know MTD made engines, they build a lot of riding mowers.

Typically, Sears will use the OEM part#'s in it's Owners Manual. The OM for that engine doesn't use Briggs part#'s.

The data you posted is Emissions info.

I assume you aren't the original owner and may have been duped?

Yeah, valve cover probably put on upside down.

Walt Conner

it's ALIVE...it's ALIVE !!! Pulled valve cover and there was a broken
push rod. Put in new push rod, adjusted valves to .0005 on both
valves, 1/4 turn from top dead center and replaced cover gasket for a
total of $12. Push rod for model 331877 Type 0805 E1. Don't know why
push rod broke.

I still don't know how tomplum figured out that might be my model #
and a 2007 engine. It sure wasn't stamped on valve cover, anywhere
else on engine or even in the owners manual.

Thanks so much tomplum, bill_kapaun, bill_kapaun and tinkerer200 for all your much appreciated help.
