my iris bed has gotten so crowded (after only 2 years) that I can't find where one kind ends and another begins. I left the leaves to grow all summer and they have been watered with a soaker hose 2-3 times a week for overnight, but now it is so thick I can't even see bad leaves to remove them, and the re-bloomers that bloomed only in late summer grew sideways hunting light. (Reason was that there are very tall volunteer cleomes & lily stalks throughout the bed). Is late August too early to trim the iris back [Z6-Virginia], especially as we have been having lots of hot weather? At least if I can see the clumps I can know I need to enlist my grandsons in the fall to help me separate and lift some of them (I have trouble getting down & up). Any help appreciated
