Course you have options. I'll tell about my tall stairwell which had spots on ceiling - I placed a large macramé which it shined on. It does have a stark look when light comes from 1 area though..... just will ask and I hope lighting experts come.... but, could you imagine a smaller spot, 1 on each side wall, shining on art?

Oh and you need enough lighting for safe walking - how does that seem now? and if you eliminated any?

The track lighting is the only option and it does do the job. I guess it gets kind of dark but nothing close to unsafe at the very top and very bottom of the steps where the next lighting option is around a small corner.

gotcha.... where dark? does current make a spooky dark spot at top? but you could point one up.....
