squish them. Or spritz them with rumbling alcohol.

Repeat endlessly until all are gone.

It is difficult to see the wee buggers but they may well be Aphids.

A good sharp spray of water to knock them off the plant works quite well with less of a chance to damage the plants that rubbing alcohol would present, and at less cost.

Thank you for your comments, but after further inspection I believe the black dots aren't insects but feces. I've noticed some webbing around the leaves but not enough for me to think it could be spider mites. I also discovered tiny yellow eggs wedged between the leaves at the base. Someone recommended spraying tobacco water so I'm doing that, I hope it works.

Aphids don't "eat" plants - they suck out the juices - and I can see some skeletonization of the leaves going on. If that is frass, it's not from spider mites, which are so small as to be nearly invisible to the naked eye. Hard to generate poop that is larger than you are :-)) More likely to be some sort of larvae or caterpillar that has been munching away and that hides under the leaves or in the soil.

Tobacco water or a nicotine solution is pretty toxic, especially when used indoors. You can probably get just as much control from using an proper insecticidal soap or Neem oil.

If you're indoors and no other plants around, you might just be able to look over every single leaf for the caterpillars/whatever that is doing this and remove them, as well as any eggs you find.

As far as the black winged critters, did you actually see more than one? Can you get a photo?
