Close Tom, it's steel with rubber coating. I think I'll clear coat it. I'm not sure about T6 in this one, it smokes a bit out the breather and exhaust but the spark plug is a perfect tan with no oil on it. Not sure if it's burning oil or the oil is burning off cause it gets pretty hot. Changed it with some straight 30 and a bit of MMO and it's black as coal after running it about 10 hours. What's the thought on running synthetic in a 51 year old engine?

Quick update on the cast iron monster. Got the magneto working and got rid of the battery coil, voltage regulator is bad so it wasn't charging but it starts easy with the rope start. Had to top off the oil and all I had was Rotella T6 and what do you know, no more smoking.

Don't need no stinking electric start on a Wisconsin lol . You may just of had some residual carbon around the valves or rings that the MMO and heat loosened up. Keep an eye on the oil levels , that old timer is almost qualified for a Pension !!!

Well it's back to smoking like crazy again, popped the head and holy loose piston. Got new rings ordered and hopefully it'll go for another 50 years.

Update for everyone interested. Had the cylinder deglazed and measured, it's within spec and has no measurable wear. Ring gap was 1/4"+. New rings should be here Monday. Thought the tapered roller bearings on the crank were different. Not bad for 51 years old.

Nope no taper or ridge. It's back together with no smoke and lots of power.

I'm breaking in the new rings with SAE 30, then yes I'll try some T6.
