I've had a simplicity cannister vac for more than 10 years. It's not perfect but I like that it is repairable or that parts are replaceable (rather than tossing out and buying a new machine). I have wood floors and area rugs and it does a good job.

I have the Shark. I like that it is bagless. I have the same situation like you do. Mostly hardwood and tile, with one room that has carpet.

Will an upright work on hardwood and tile? Is another Miele a consideration? When we bought our Miele we also considered a Riccar and a Sanitaire. I can't remember what swayed us, but we love our Miele.

I don't know anything about the Simplicity, but vacuum store people always try to talk you out of bagless vacs. I love my bagless vacuum.
