You would need an engineer or architect to inspect the attic. If it consists of engineered roof trusses alone, you can't do it, well easily anyway.

Thank you for your answer, I will check into it. It's a wartime house (40's) and as a kid growing up in one there were many of my friends whose bedrooms were in the attic and now I live in one and the extra room could sure help! I need more storage space and maybe a room to escape to! . . . LOL

In Europe, the building standards were much sturdier (no offence Norm) and many people convert their attic space into habitable places or storage... but as Norm says, always best to check
