Brassavola nodosa are wonderful and rewarding orchids. Mine has outgrown its tree fern mount. So I need to attach it to a new, larger mount or put it in a basket.
This is the reason i grow a Nodosa...pictures like this. Mine is a big plant covered in buds now, and then again by Christmas, and again in early spring. It blooms3-5 times a year. One of the best smelling orchids, easy to grow, and fun to share with people, then they see how easy it is to grow, and are so surprised they can grow it to!
I love their fragrance. My reason for a nightly trip out to the GH. I normally bring it into the sunporch once blooming starts, just haven't don't it yet.
as the nodosa is nicknamed "lady of the night" it turns the fragrance on after dark, t does this as the pollinators that it attracts are active at night. If you want to kick start the fragrance during the day, cover the plant with a large cardboard box for about a half hour and you will trigger the aroma... great plant
