You could prune down by half or so Dec or Jan then fine tune your pruning to outward facing buds when spring growth starts and you see it bud out.

I forgot to mention I have had Queen Elizabeth and her growth was quite similar to Secret. Both tall and vigorous.

Thanks, everyone. I will prune down in late winter. I am concerned that I only see the slightest of growth nodules on most of the large canes. If I don't do this, though, it'll never be anything more than a overly tall bush whose flowers I can't reach, let alone prune.

How tall is "very very tall?" Mine is pushing 6 feet and very upright, and I haven't really pruned her hard, but I'm tempted. She's leggy, especially being a queen and all. Put on some leaves, woman!

She is probably 10-12 feet tall.
