We're dry down here, as the rain keeps hitting our Mesonet station but missing us, and yet, I suspect we are not nearly as dry as you are.

Hang in there. As Jay always used to say, every day that it doesn't rain just brings you one day closer to the next rainy day.

I let the blueberries go last year. I am able to water my improved pecans from a pond, but the others are on their own. Early maturing ones are mostly good, late maturing ones will have to have rain soon. They will all be fine in the long run, but once again the promise of a good profit does not materialize.

I hate to hear that about the blueberries. They did so well for so long, but I do understand it. I cannot grow anything here long-term that needs truly consistent good moisture in the summer months.

It is so hard to make a good crop of pecans any more. Our county has many old existing pecan orchards, especially in bottom land along the river, but they aren't intensively managed/harvested as the once were---even just as recently as 10-15 years ago. As you've noted, it is hard to get a good profit from them any more. I cannot even remember the last year I saw those big pecan tree shaker vehicles traveling down our road to reach anybody's pecan trees.

Now, if only it would rain some (hopefully a lot) this fall and winter. I'm watching a line of storms on the radar right now. They are out west of me this morning and I'm hoping it holds together and reaches us. I hope you get some more rain this weekend. I know you need it.

Sorry the system didn't quite make it to Love county Dawn but it looks like you got a few drops at least.

There is a strange system moving thru Kansas and Missouri as I type. Very disorganized and the stronger cells are short lived. I think I saw a decent cell go over my property on the radar so I'm hopeful that I won't have to water my garden again this evening.

My earliest broccoli had about 4" heads on it last night so I imagine some of it will be ready to harvest this weekend!! I'm craving broccoli salad with red onion, golden raisons, sunflower seeds, and bacon bits with mayo/ACV dressing...yum yum!
