What??? This question makes no sense if you want some help ask questions that can be answered

One person's needs are not the same as another person. You have to figure out what is important to you. And every house is different, too.

If you are young and starting out you have questions. This is a way to get ideas. Maybe it was an incredibly broad question but it was an innocent one.

Kim-listen to Rollinggirl... Perhaps narrow it down. I'm in my early 50s, nearing retirement. "Everything in a house" constitutes my loving husband, my dog, and company- when we want it. :) It's a far-sight from what we wanted in our 20s, as a young family, or 30s-40s with teenagers all over.

Break it down a bit- you can get really great advice here.

All we really need are a kitchen, a bathroom, a place for a TV and books and a place to sleep. And for me, a parking place for my car. Oh! And a laundry!

Like Juanita, our needs have changed over the years.

Give us a list of all your rooms; how many people in your home; how many pets; how you entertain (casual or formal); your location (warm or cold climate); how many closets; your decorating style; type of stove; any allergies.

We probably can come up with a list for you.

dear gerou, i believe that this is now a home for us to fill in any way our imagination desires. the original intention has long since been swept away.

Do you mean to go inside a house or features of a house. Your budget matters for either.

For the home itself, the size and what rooms depends upon how many people will be living there and if it is a temporary residence or a "forever home".

For the average family, a large "great room" -- living, dining and kitchen combined -- along with at least three bedrooms -- parents bedroom and girls room and boys room -- and at least a bath and a half as well as a back entry/mud room/laundry is a good basic home. Porches are a plus.

For furnishings to go inside a home, "Less is more." -- at least to begin with -- so focus on buying necessities only (rather than items purely for decoration); for instance:

For the bedroom, you need a basic metal bed frame w/castors and a good quality mattress and springs; however you don't actually need a headboard or footboard -- those are more for looks.

For a bedroom, if you have a closet w/clothes rod, you can hang your clothes in that but you will still need either a chest of drawers for each person or, if you have room inside a closet, shelving, some w/baskets for underwear and items you don't hang on a clothes rod.

For the kitchen, you probably need a stove and refrigerator but you don't necessarily need the largest and/or most expensive on the market. What else you get for the kitchen depends on what you will use for cooking and serving and that depends upon your own personal habits.

For the dining area, you'll need a chair for every member of the household and a table large enough to seat them.

For the living room area, the space as well as how many people use the seats matter.
