We do not want to use grass in our yard. I got rid of it years ago, but am having trouble creating a nice looking yard without it. My rose beds and flower beds are nice, but I have a problem with a wide area between the rose beds and the hillside.

We have some young plants in that area, and I have almost finished digging out the 7 caryopteris plants that were taking over. I want to put down landscape fabric, create a nice walkway of rocks and large pine nuggets, and need something else.

We will purchase large stones, and i am trying to figure out how to use a few stone arrangements as a design.

The area is far from the water source except for the long hose, so a pond is out of the question. Also there is no shade, so a seating area will not work. I have tried sedum, and a couple of other plants, but they died - more than likely from neglect, dryness, or too much water.
