Scale

REALLY!! Scale on my crape myrtles! I have 95 roses to take care of and the crape myrtles are supposed to take care of themselves after I cut them back. The scale is nasty, and I am not sure if aphids seem to follow the scale, but there are ants. Hordes of ants.

I do not ever spray, but do use ant baits and ant killers. But what I am using does not compete well with the scale or whatever else I am fighting.

I think I read that in time I can spray the crapes with horticultural oil, but are any of you aware of what is recommended for scale ---if that is what those white things are.

I always cut back my crape myrtles (all 16), but wait until about January thinking that they will break the wind and protect my roses a little.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Sammy
