I just received this today and figured I would ask before I potted it. Dark green with red edge, longest leaf is 5.5 inches. Thank you in advance. :)

Looks like another subspicata or Malawi midnight. Someone else was looking for an ID here so I was looking at those 2. I have both Subspicata and Malawi Midnight but my Sub is young and striated so it doesn't give the best ID. Look at the older Subs and see if you think that's what you have. The leaves are so dark and shiny. I love em.

Katrina I thought it might be Malawi midnight. I really love the leaves on it. I did see Denise's thread about hers, it looks similar.

Maybe it is subspicata. I wish I could read German.

Yeah, it sure looks more like Subspicata than MM. Funny how u 2 seemingly have the same plant. Use a translation app. The English is poorly translated but u get the point of what's being said. I love that site.

Hi Nancy, I don't think it's Malawi Midnight, it has vertical lines in it's leaves that I don't see in your plant. It does look more like subspicata like Katrina says. These plants are in very nice shape and well grown. Love that green with the red edge.

Thanks Russ. The seller didn't know the correct name and I loved the looks of it.

I too have no idea what it is….but I love it. Like Russ…I appreciate the deep dark green without all the coloration, and the healthy shape of those leaves. If I saw a Sans like that locally, I would buy it in a heartbeat, even if I never found out exactly what it was….it would be one of my treasures! Lucky you, Nancy.

I have never purchased from this ebay seller before and I'm really happy with my purchase. If anyone is interested, the seller has two more of these listed, click on the links below.

I just got my Boncel from them. They had the best price for a Boncel, and the plant I received was huge and in perfect condition! Will def buy from them again!

Couldn't resist Nancy, just had to get that Sans, looks great and at a great price! I hope I have the same luck as you! The description calls it a Concinna, but Russ thinks it's a Subspicata, do you agree?

Mary if you read the description in the main part of the auction the seller said he didn't know the name but the leaves looked like concinna that's why he had it listed with a question mark.

Concinna are the spoon leaf sansevieria and have a long stem that connects to the leaves. I knew it wasn't that and thought it might be malawi midnight. Katrina said it could be subspicata and when I looked I thought so too and so did Russ. Russ is the expert here. :)

Thanks Nancy, we'll go with Subspicata then, haha!

Thanks for those links Nancy. This sans isn't a concinna and I'm pretty sure it's subspicata, but I'm interested to see what others think.

The seller isn't primarily a sans seller, but I'm tempted on the 4" boncel price.

I do have an issue with the selling of the 3 rooted leaf cuttings of guineensis variegata for $30, imported from Guatemala. The leaves will grow nothing but the common green species, or less likely an albino that can't live on it's own. But I'll cut them some slack since they mostly sell toy cars and might not be aware of the dishonesty of this for the unaware public.

Being in New York, this seller probably just holds imports until they're sold, so isn't a grower. I don't have a problem with that at all, but it could indicate that they don't know anything about the sans they sell.

Russ, I know there are a lot of people that sell plants and don't what they are. Like the local garden center that has a lot of unmarked plants, like the pothos I asked you about and a plant I asked a person that worked there and she didn't know. She said her sister would but she wasn't there, I think I've only seen her once. I asked in the other forum and it was senecio articulatus. They get all of their plants trucked in.

That seller did have a bunch of concinna some for $11.99 some for $18.99, I guess they sold but he did say in the listing he wasn't sure about the name. Maybe he's buying them from the Union Square Market that Hellkitchenguy (Manuel) posted about and reselling them.

Oh yeah Nancy, very true about ID's and uninformed people. Not their fault but sometimes it's just a lack of interest about names. But, you can bet the Guatemalan wholesaler knew that the variegated guineensis leaves were a dead-end.

I did notice the question mark after the name concinna, posting it that way is fine with me.

Like Norma once told me about ID'in. Just can't ever be sure. Too many variables. To me it looks a lot like my Sansevieria 'Senegambica'.

But I see some differences. No red edge on mine. Very faint banding but dark green on older leaves. Also many leaves per node being the same.

Your senegambica is really well grown Stush. If I get any that look like your sans it's by sheer accident, your sans are consistently high quality. But yeah, the lack of red edge would be an eliminator for Nancy's sans, plus if we had both together I think your plant would have flexible leaves where Nancy's is probably pretty stiff.

You mentioned dear Norma, I always think about her when I see one of the many sans I got from her in the late 1990s. She's a real sweetie, I hope she's still in good health.

I wish I could have traveled to LA to visit her. Missed my chance. Last heard she's in a nursing home and I hope she's doing well and have access to the internet. Maybe she will post again. Some here do know her very well, maybe they'll jump in with something.

Stush your sans is very nice but looks big. Mine has very firm leaves and is small, 5.5 inches.

I think Next Obsession mentioned that about Norma.

Nancy, That senegambica is less than 10" and has very stiff leaves and the main plant in the pot has developed a true caudeces or swollen root at it's base. First time I ever seen that. Looks kind of funny. It was variegated with one stripe down the center but since lost that. All pups are all green with some molting.
