I think that could be a Hamamelis. But I might be way off. Can you tell us where in the world this is growing?

hazelnut popped into my head ... but flora is better at ID than i am ... witch hazel blooms in winter.. go figure on that ....

whatever it is.. from here on out.. it will be a battle to keep it tame ... so think about moving it at some point ... if it winter blooms.. fall might not be the proper time to move it ...

it was planted perfectly for the size it was at that moment.... now its too close to the house and railing ... it will never stop growing.. so you either move it.. or start a lifetime of pruning ...

ps: when new to the house.. it never hurts to call miss dig.. and find out where all the utilities are.. before you go start digging things up ...
